Kestrels, cherries and an angry magpie

A lovely blue-skied fresh morning with the sound of young kestrels on the wing. I can also hear a magpie chattering angrily at the little falcons. From my door I can see the nasturtiums blooming low by the little garden fence and the tall day lilies reaching up behind them in the same orange hue. The thistles haven't started blooming yet -- another week or so I think -- while the roses are just about finished. The red Sympatica are still hanging on, but the yellow ones have already lost all their petals.

Later today I'll go out back to pick cherries -- both the big sweet cherries with the yellow cheeks and the small dark red sour ones are ripe. It is high time to get them into jars for the winter.
